Most people I talk to about meditation usually say the following:
“I can’t do it”. Or
“I have tried it but it seems that I think too much”.
So here is an easy way to start meditating.
Download Insight timer and find a good guided deep relaxation track.
Carve out 30 minutes of your day and follow the tracks suggestions. Make sure that you will be undisturbed for the time you have chosen and it is in a quiet place. It’s important to learn how to relax the body before learning how to formally meditate.
After doing a few deep relaxations, you will be ready to meditate. This time, carve out 10-15 minutes in a quiet room, again with no distractions. Sit upright in a comfortable position that embodies the qualities of a mountain. Close your eyes and become in contact with your breath at the belly. Try to keep your awareness on the breath as you breathe in, and as you breathe out.
Your mind will still do what it is supposed to do, and that is think. Sometimes it will think a lot. Simply acknowledge the thinking and let it flow through like a river, in and out. Then simply bring your attention back to your breath at the belly.
There is nothing wrong with thinking while you are meditating. Actually it is the essence of meditating; the practice of becoming aware of what is going on in our body, connecting with our breath, then letting it go.
After you let it go, then what!?!?
Well…. welcome the next thing….
