The importance of hydrating with water.

In today’s society we have access to a vast number of sources for fluid intake. Things such as soft drinks, energy drinks, sport drinks, electrolyte drinks, coffee, tea and several other sources mean that for many people the humble glass or bottle of water is often over looked as not only a good source of fluid for hydrating the body but actually the best source as it fills several roles within how our bodies work without any of the side effects that most other products come with.

Some of the benefits of ensuring you are well hydrated each day are

Less cravings, many people today interpret their thirst urge as a hunger urge and submit to a eating something easy and convenient but their craving does not disappear so they eat more and so on. In most cases if water was drunk the craving would disappear as the body has been given what it needs fluid. The flow on effect is that many people will lose weight as they are now eating less.

Better energy levels and functionality. Once we are dehydrated our body’s capacity to do work is reduced as a protective mechanism to ensure we survive. By ensuring you are drinking enough each day your energy levels will be higher and your ability to perform tasks will be greatly enhanced.

Improved hormone balance and profile. Water represents the bulk of our body’s composition and as such has a large influence over how we work internally. Hormonal responses to sugar and other chemicals commonly found in most commercially available drinks mean that we have a hormonal response to these products. Hormones such as insulin and cortisol are just two that are negatively affected. With water the response is one of positivity and our hormonal profile is improved and this then leads into better hormone function which then gives us better overall capacity for our day to day tasks and training.

There are many other benefits too, so the message is drink water regularly and feel better.
